Techniques, Tools and Tips

I’ve been doing the ‘cake thing’ for over 20 years now.  I remember when chocolate pieces, buttercream piping and Wilton shaped pans were all the rage. I even remember when Fondant first appeared on the scene (you had to make your own in the early years) now its mainstream and there seems to be no turning back.  With You tube and the do it yourself trend it seems like everyone is a cake decorator. I have no problem with that, but a good old-fashioned hands on cake decorating class, in my opinion is still the way to go. You can’t beat sharing ideas with others and having an instructor there to share techniques and shortcuts and to walk you through any cake mishaps.

I enjoy working with fondant, I think it’s revolutionized cake decorating, and taken it to a whole other level. There are so many cake-decorating tools available but my favourite fondant tool is the Clay Gun. Can’t work without it, and can’t say enough about it, everyone that works with fondant should own one.
It’s simple to use and comes with a variety of tips that give you so many options. The pictures below show the tips and the many effects you get with them.
Have a look, and try one out, I hope you enjoy using this tool as much as I do.
